The Oxon Hill Volunteer Fire Department is a fire department located in Prince George’s County, Maryland, USA. The department was established in 1925, and it was originally known as the Oxon Hill Fire Company.
The Oxon Hill Fire Company was founded by a group of volunteers who wanted to provide fire protection to the growing community of Oxon Hill. At the time, the community had no fire department, and fires were often left to burn themselves out. The volunteers initially relied on a horse-drawn wagon to transport water and equipment to fires.
Over the years, the department grew and modernized. In the 1950s, the department added its first fire engine, which was replaced by a new engine in the 1970s. The department also acquired an ambulance in the 1970s to provide emergency medical services.
In the 1980s, the department moved into a new fire station, which provided more space for equipment and personnel. The department also expanded its services to include hazardous materials response and technical rescue.
Today, the Oxon Hill Volunteer Fire Department is a full-service fire department, providing fire suppression, emergency medical services, hazardous materials response, technical rescue, and other services to the community. The department is staffed by both volunteer and career firefighters and operates out of two fire stations.
